Arizona woman accused of trading child for gun

PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities say they have arrested a Mesa woman who allegedly tried to trade her 2-year-old daughter for a gun.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies went to the home of 33-year-old Tanya Nareau on Tuesday after receiving a tip about the swap.

While at Nareau's home, a family friend who had the child confirmed to deputies that Nareau gave the girl to him for a gun.

Deputies say Nareau felt that the friend would do a better job in raising the child. They say Nareau also claimed she could not buy a weapon because she's prohibited to do so by law.

Authorities say Nareau has been booked into county jail. She's charged with the unlawful sale of a child and solicitation to possess a weapon by a prohibited person.

It was unclear whether Nareau had a lawyer.

Clearly she is mentally ill and/or incompetent.

This is just another sad story along the same lines as people who try and in cases do trade their children for drugs and as collateral against other product, and even a few months ago two cases of a father and the second a mother both pimping out their children for sex against money and illicit drugs exchange.

This is not a gun story.
It easily could have been a car, drugs, bucks or some other item of suck.

Hmmm...that is sad but let us look at it this way instead: maybe she cannot really look after her child and wanted a gun in exchange so she can kill herself? At least in her mind, the child will be better off without her. It did not occur to her to give the child a home via the adoption centre???She desperately need help...

The child is better off without a mother like that... It doesn't say if the other person was charged with anything. She sold a gun to someone that was not legally able to make a purchase, not to mention what she accepted for payment.
