Protection is a responsibility not just a right.
Good thing he had his gun... Brave kid... too bad the police didn't write the report then take the BG to the hospital

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.
If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.
Good point, I can certainly agree with your thinking there. My post was full of over zealous anger for the dirtbag shooting through the door without knowing what he might hit on the other side. It seemed like a fitting end for the piece of trash, but I agree, the young mans mental state could suffer from such a ordeal. In the end the trash fled and the family survived, so all in all, still a great ending to a scary story.

Look at it this way. He saved his mother's life. No award he gets will be enough.

Good on that young man. Good on his mom for having a rifle and gun close at hand. Many mommas would not allow that.
The 4-H clubs have very good shooting programs for youngsters, maybe he learned his skills there.
As far as a gift...mine would be a box of ammo. The Nintendo lasted less than a year after my liberal sister gave one to my boys over my objections. It had a sudden and catastrophic failure under cowboy boots.
Momma DO let your children grow up to be cowboys.
Dukalmighty, did you get any info on the boy yet, so we can take up a collection?

Now there is a kid tough as nails. Speedy recovery to the child, not for the perp.
One more step and it's on!
Not yet, it did say they were staying with relatives, one thing that came up in an additional story is the following(Neighbor Luis Palomino said he wasn’t surprised when he learned of the incident. Burglars broke into his house in July, and break-ins seem common in quiet, rural areas, he said.
Investigators told the family the attackers likely were looking for drugs at the house. The mother said there were no drugs there.
Another neighbor, however, said Saturday that he saw a black Ford Expedition come later Friday morning and load what appeared to be bundles of marijuana into the vehicle.
"I was just watching," the neighbor said in Spanish. "One notices things."
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño did not return several calls seeking comment Monday.)Most home invasions down here are usually drug stash houses that are targeted by rival gangs,I believe all the suspects are Mexican Nationals.
I will contact the Detective in the AM and see if I can find out more
"Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country,"
--Mayor Marion Barry, Washington , DC .
For the sake of knowing, I wonder what make of 22 rifle he was using?
A 22LR from a rifle will penetrate 14in of ballistic gel from a distance of 40ft.
22LR fired from say 10/22 or Henry lever carbine is very effective when applied in more than one dose.
This brave young man has all my respect and hope and prayers for a complete recovery!!!!!
NOT LIVING IN FEAR, JUST READY!!!
This is an amazingly great story of heroism.
And yet its and indictment on our national news media with how it is totally ignored!
I encourage everyone to put this in their facebook, I did.
If possible I hope the whole country joins in in giving him a notable reward that the media can't ignore!
If its a paypal account, I will donate.
What a brave little boy.. I hope my son will grow up to be as courageous.. it is a tragedy the boy had to even go through such an event... No doubt it will cause some emotional/mental issues... I mean, even justified shootings take their toll on adults. I can't imagine how rough it must be for a child.
Duk,
As an FYI if at all it becomes a known, or you find out on your own, that anything about this incident is not 100% above board on the up n' up be it drugs or what have you, then my prior offer becomes null & void.
Myself and other folk can't be associated in any way what so ever to sketchy or improper, even as children do have a right as anyone else does to defend themself...Even as their parent(s) might be less than smart/wise/lawful acting citizens. :|
