Good, let's all pray that the "teens" don't sue this guy.

Fortunately, Florida Law prevents that action, considering that the true victim here was not charged with any infraction. I believe it is 776.085 in the code.

    However, IANAL.

Sounds like a mostly good result. Definitly makes a case for high capacity mags, or at least multiple home defense weapons. He fought off four thugs. I wonder how many rounds he went through.

Good for him. Except the AD in the back part.

How did he shoot himself in the back? Otherwise, a great job

How does a gun go off upon being set down and untouched?
How does that same gun as untouched and set down go off, on it's own, with a time delay at all muchless to such a degree that it fires and hits the handler in his own back?
Why would a person place down a firearm in such a position to result in he being ahead of the muzzle and down range of it?

None of this makes any sense to me.
I'll write it off to poor reporting by the news.

    "Burglars," my eye.

"Teens," eh? They're committing an adult crime. Adult responses are reasonable.

Four-on-one, masked intruders, children in the house. Sounds perfectly within his rights to dissuade them from entering and threatening his family.

    Kudos to the citizen.

    May the robbers rot.

Maybe he thought he fired the full clip, and the last one didnt fire placed it down and it fired. How much shooting has he done with this gun? From my understanding to break in a gun you need to shoot 500 rounds? (is that right?)

Good questions about the self inflicted wound. When/if more is reported on that I will post it up. It should be interesting reading!

But this home owner needs to work on his 'point shooting'...

So the teens were not the original burglars? Or were they?

    more info,FWIW... update

One of my co-workers wife was told by the SRO at the school she teaches at, a Cocoa PD officer, that the home owner/victim handed his shotgun to his neighbor while he 'patted down' the miscreants, and the neighbor fired the shot that hit the homeowner in the back.

Truth is stranger than fiction, as 'they' say.

Now see THAT ^^ makes much more sense...Functionally as to how firearms work (and do not work) and relationally as to how he wound being shot in the back by his own gun as by reporting placed on a table.

Once again another proof that guns do not have minds of their own.
They much be handled as by a sentient being to become a danger.

As to this guy why would he place himself down range at all muchless to 'pat down' the BGs. That's just stupid.
Everybody freeze and stay froze until the po-po comes...And THEY do the patting down as akin to the real and actual cops that they are.

In the end this guy got himself shot for no good reason. :|

In this case per the update the fiction was much stranger, and nonsensical, than the actual truth.

Proof, also, I think, that the 'media' has a serious problem in ascertaining the facts, and reporting them accurately, on a regular basis.
