KINGSTON — An argument about a toy gun ended with a stabbing, city police said on Thursday.
Detective Lt. Timothy Matthews said a woman was arguing Wednesday night with her fiancé, Lavelle Ray Stackhouse, about whether the couple’s 4-year-old daughter could have a toy gun that another friend was going to buy for the child. The woman’s brother, Randy Montgomery Jr., also was involved in the dispute, Matthews said.
The argument escalated into what Matthews described as a “melee” in the couple’s apartment at 627 Delaware Ave., with the fight among the three drawing in Montgomery’s father and another friend.
During the fight, Matthews said, Stackhouse, 38, grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed Montgomery in the left side of his chest.
Police were called at 9:08 p.m., and Matthews said Montgomery, 23, of Kingston, was flown to the St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie with a punctured lung. He was recovering and “in good condition” on Thursday, the detective lieutenant said.
Matthews said Stackhouse suffered cuts and bruises in the fight and was taken to the Kingston Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Stackhouse was charged with felony assault and was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, Matthews said. No one else was charged in the incident.
The stabbing was the second violent incident in Kingston in less than 24 hours. About 7 p.m. Tuesday, 21-year-old Charles King Jr. was shot and killed on Cedar Street in the city’s Midtown section. Police have charged Trevor Mattis, 22, of Poughkeepsie with murder in that killing and are seeking a second, as yet unidentified, suspect who would face the same charge. Three other people were charged with lesser felonies.

Obviously it's the guns fault.
I'm just one root in a grassroots organization. No one should assume that I speak for the VCDL.
I am neither an attorney-at-law nor I do play one on television or on the internet. No one should assumes my opinion is legal advice.

64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.
Don't bring a knife to a toy gun fight.
Why do I think the one who did the stabbing didn't want the child to have the toy gun?
There were obviously some 'problems' prior to the discussion of the toy gun.
Sounds like this family get-together's picture would be found in the dictionary under 'disfunctional'...
