    7 year-old sheepdog

NORWALK, Calif. – A terrified 7-year-old boy begged emergency dispatchers to send police to his Southern California home where three armed robbers threatened his parents, according to a recording of the call released Tuesday.

Gunmen broke into the boy's home Tuesday morning and announced that they would take whatever they wanted, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Steve Kenny said.

The boy and his 6-year-old sister hid unnoticed in the locked bathroom while the suspects threatened his mother and father at gunpoint.

"There's some guy who's going to kill my mom and dad," he said breathlessly. "Bring cops. A lot of them! ... And soldiers, too."

The suspects eventually broke into the bathroom and someone screamed. The 911 operator sounded shaken as she explained what happened to her colleagues.

Kenny said the suspects grabbed the boy and asked who he called. He responded, "911." The gunmen fled without taking anything or injuring the family.

"If not for the brave and educated actions of the 7-year-old boy, this might have ended tragically," said sheriff's Capt. Pat Maxwell.

The three men remain at large.

Bravo! What a wonderful thing to have had the smarts, courage, and the phone to be able to actually accomplish the task! This is the sort of thing I dream about doing. Well, this and throwing the knife in the air and shooting it so the last bullet splits into two and kills both bad guys. Seriously: good for him!

Sheepdog? I would submit that he's more of a noisemaker-dog: he summoned help rather than wading into battle. No shame in that - the kid did EXACTLY the right thing and saved the family! I hope he gets proper appreciation and recognition for it.

And he may very well be a sheepdog-in-training, too.

As they always say, the cops are only minutes away. Of course the dispatcher probably didn't take the kid's message seriously, making the cops arrival that much later, as usual.

Could you imagine if 911 dispatched a squad of marines?

    Tango down!

    The BG would **** bricks!

Congrats to the kid hope the parents will stop the S.I.T. and get him a red ryder BB gun.
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

In my town the a police sargent commented to me with pride just over a month ago that their "average" response time is 4 minutes to anywhere within the town limits. Average.

This kids sheer terror went on for 1.5m (90s) on the inside as per count of the 911 call.
Who know how many minutes passed before he called and how many second to minutes elapsed before the robbers actually left his home.

No knock nor criticism at all toward police and the work they do, but they quite simply cannot be depended on.
It's just dumb luck the kids were able to get away and secure a phone to call 911. No luck or no kids and there would be no 911 alert toward trouble. Then what?!

    We are on our own.

The scary part is it almost sounds like the 911 operator did nothing till someone screamed. I hope that is just poor writing from the media.

Everyone's a winner I guess, including the perps who got away. Hopefully next time the perps will be greeted with twelve gauge slugs and the only 911 call will be for a hearse and a clean up crew.

This was quite a clever young man.
I saw him on Fox News last night. He was as brave as any kid (only 7 years old) could have been expected to be...job well-done!

I hope I can instill in my boys the same ability to think and reason that Carlos has, because they sure don't teach kids how to think in schools anymore.
