I started the day off today by taking my Grandson shooting.
I recently got him an Airsoft 1911 and taught him the basics of shooting and really drilled him on safety. I told him I would teach him to shoot "the real thing" if he showed good gun handleing practices in our yard and passed a verbal test.
I'm happy to say that he has been doing quite well and today I took him to the range "for the real thing". It was a good day, he handled everything safely, even pointing out safety issues of another shooter, then it was time to start shooting (after the safety issue person was gone) and he did manage to hit a full sized target in the scoring rings (not high scoring rings) 25 out of 75 shots. I don't think this was too bad for a first timer and shooting a 1911 with fixed combat sights.
I look forward to bringing him out again but will set the target closer, maybe 3 yards instead of the 7 yards he shot today.

Great! Way to go.
The introduction will hopefully have him seeking more range time - and if he used a 1911 then his results were pretty good. Try him on a sheet of letter paper only, next time.
Forget bullseye and scoring rings and yep - bring it in closer.

How old is he?
I know a 1911 can be a little hard to shoot, especially when just getting started no matter what your age.

It is a great feeling to be able to encourage young people to enjoy safe shooting. Keep us posted on his progress. My son is shooting a glock( yea I know not a 1911).

Yes, but he IS shooting and having fun at it, I assume. And that's a good thing.
