Noticed something weird while watching Magnum PI

In the show Selleck never uses a holster and never properly conceals his firearm, he just puts in his waistband in the back of his pants. Seems odd for an actor who supposedly owns firearms IRL. You can tell that he knows about guns, the way he holds it and the way he fights. But why no holster?

I thought it was because he only carried when he knew he was going to need it.

It's TV It's TV It's TV... He was not the director of the program.

And yes... I'm with SIXTO... Don't question Magnum!

For the record, I really enjoyed Selleck's performance in the "Jesse Stone" series of made for TV movies where he plays the police chief of small town Paradise Mass. Kind of cheesy, no doubt, but enjoyable none the less.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the "Jesse Stone" series.

Not only does he own firearms IRL but I believe he is on the NRA board of directors.

I thought I remembered he was the executive producer later on. Am I wrong?

I love Magnum! I sooo want a Ferrari 308GTS. It just sorta bugged me now that I know more about firearms and I started looking for things like that.

I've never seen them but they do look interesting. I should look if Amazon has them on DVD.

THere was an article in NRA's Freedom First that the 1911 that Selleck used in Magnum PI was actually a 9mm, not 45 ACP!

Yeah, so it would cycle blanks reliably. You can kinda tell when you see the muzzle.

The only time Magnum used a holster was when he wore a tanker holster with his cammies. Who knows, maybe a 6'+ fit guy can keep a 5" 1911 from falling out. He almost never carried a reload, which they brought up and used very effectively for the set-up for two episodes.

I always love watching Magnum PI, and Jesse Stone. Tom Selleck is awesome!

I thought he carried it in the waistband, small of the back. As stated before, he didn't carry it all the time. What do you mean by "properly"? Keep in mind this was a long time ago--and it's lots cooler to not use a holster when on TV. I've carried Magnum style at times, but better have tight jeans, or you are digging the Colt outta your boot in no time!

I have been into guns forever and noticed that when it was running; not only no holster....BUT usually no belt either.

Yeah, he did. I just couldn't think of the word "small of the back" atm I posted this thread, lol.

And I mean the handle is sticking out. Wouldn't that count as open carrying which is illegal in Hawaii I thought.
