P.O. asked if my gun was loaded....

A while back, I was driving and the closed can of Peanuts on the passenger seat fell to the floor.....I reached for the can and my car swerved just enough to make local a PO u-turn and pull me over. I handed him my license and Concealed Permit and when he asked if everything was alright I told him I dropped my peanuts and pointed at the can on the floor....he looked at my concealed permit and asked why I gave him this...not required in NY?...I said that I wanted everything clearly understood in case he asked me to exit the vehicle....he asked if it was loaded....I said, "Is yours?"....he wished me a pleasant evening....after he ran the license.....sign me JOHN DILLINGER

Kind of a silly question.... If you say "No", he should still assume it's loaded. If you say "yes", it's still loaded. Who carries an unloaded gun anyway?

Great response you gave him. Kinda sums it all up in two words!

Not sure if I would have responded with "Is yours", but I'm glad it turned out ok. Not to hijack the thread, but your post reminds me of the time I had dinner with my very anti-gun sister-in-law, and the topic somehow came up, and she found out that I was carrying. She then said, seriously, and I almost fell off my chair laughing, "yes", she said, "I understand... but is it loaded?"

"...he asked if it was loaded..."

You could have said, "Let's see...here, throw this can up in the air."

I've had friends ask, "Do you carry on the weekend too?".....Sheesh....It seemed okay to answer PO that way at the time...he commented on the UNRESTRICTED part and nodded his head...maybe he hasn't seen many...Turned out okay...he also said I should pick up my peanuts before I drive off...he was out looking for DWI's.....
