I have gone quite a bit beyond that.

I would suggest that folks pick their poison and prepare.

Yeah, down here in FL we have weeks worth just because you don't want to be stuck in line at the grocery store and realize they have none of what you need when that storm is days out.

I don't need food. My subjects will provide for me in exchange for peace and security.

Bottled water, sardines, Ramen, rice, tuna, jerky, chipped beef, and even coffee. The water is a must but pick a starch and a meat source to maintain strength so you can catch real food.
You sir, have taken a step in the right direction. FEMA is a 72 hour response agency. As in you are on your own for at least 72 hours.
The big question is how close are you to where they aregoing to be passing out the goodies?

Cash is only good if there is still a government to back it. And even if there is a federal government you might be in a barter mode for quite a while before the infrastructure is restored.

Lots of folks don't think about the water. If you have enough water the food will become available...... eventually. You can live how long without food? And how long without water?

Thats a good start. Don't forget the water though.

Are these the same guys who dreamed up global warming? I've got food and water for a week, but guessing I won't need to use it ...

Worldwide EMP... Sounds like a blast. I'll keep my handy dandy AK-47 and a few good books to pass the time.

We're not doing that end of the world stuff again, are we? If the solar flares take down the cell towers, I'm all for it.

DO you know why the Mayan calendar stops at 2012? For the same reason ours stops at Dec. 31st. They just never printed (chiseled?) the next one!

    Why does it end then?

Because it has to end SOMETIME. It can't go on forever

I always imagined some Mayan boss stopping in and asking some poor schlub how the calender is coming along. When the guy tells him he is almost done with 2012 his boss kicks him in the rear and tells him to knock it off and do some real work!

IIRC, it is the end of a cycle. Twenty eight thousand years?

Doesn't your calendar "end" on Dec. 31, 2010? Maybe that's the last year that would fit on the rock. Geez! Maybe the 2013 rock got lost in the mail.
