To the OP: It's not just you. I used to work for an electric company that will remain nameless. Some days I'd come home and be amazed that the lights would come on when I flipped the switch. Honestly.
You just need to find a hobby that has nothing to do with work.

Take copious notes and then write a book/comic strip. One day you could be rich like Scott Adams (of dilbert fame).

I coped for most of my working life by keeping my eye on the ball; my paycheck and my family's welfare.
You make a quick value judgment that you and your family are more important than what goes on at work and you just play the game and ride the wave.
If the owners don't care, why should you?

I always say that the idiots and morons out number the intelligent portion of society, and as others have stated, its only getting worse.

Currently doing that myself. Wanted out of my current spot. But the schedule is better for my family. The boss did not listen to me and add a run to the spot to boost the money. I took it anyway for the schedule. Now I'm hoping they don't fill all the runs and I get an extra one. It actually looks like a decent possibility. But the smart thing to do would be to add it before we change routes so that I am guaranteed the work. But no, we're winging it instead.

I work for the city, that should be explaination enough. The only thing my age is doing for me at this point in time is causing my blood pressure to go higher
