Ruger 10/22 - 3000 rounds
Glock 19 - 800 rounds
Mossberg 835 ulti-mag about - 300 rounds
This is a discussion on Another zombie thread within the Off Topic & Humor Discussion forums, part of the The Back Porch category; Ruger 10/22 - 3000 rounds Glock 19 - 800 rounds Mossberg 835 ulti-mag about - 300 rounds...
What I have available right now?
Glock 19 (stock, w/ night sights)
Colt M4 w/ lots of add-ons
The third is a tough one. I have available a Remington 870 Police Magnum and a Colt 9mm submachine gun.
My first thought is the shotty, but I only have 00 Buck and Slug available, so the utility of it is diminished. Also, it has a 14" bbl, further reducing it's versatility. Of course, I can probably scrounge another barrel and other ammo types...
The subgun offers a reduced number of ammo types I need to maintain, is small, handy, high capacity, low-recoil, and very accurate within 100m. It shares the exact same manual of arms, the same accessories, and many of the same parts, with the M4. I can loan the subgun out to smaller statured/recoil sensitive people. I am more comfortable with the AR platform than any other long gun platform....
So...if this is a true "zombie" apocalypse, I think the subgun is the better choice. If it's a "collapse of society, but no zombies" scenario, the shotty may take the number three slot...but the more I think about it the more I'm liking the subgun.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

And do I really have to leave either my SW 3913 or my Ruger GP100 behind? Oh all right, I'll take the Ruger, only because I think it'll be easier to find .38/.357 than 9mm. But I'll be sad.
More ammo than I can carry.
(I'm also bringing a good crowbar and some MRE's, so there!)

Ok, I just thought about this and don't hate me for posting this.
If Jesus came back from the dead well he is a zombie now.
So what do you kill him with?
Anyway, I got a M4 with 210 rounds on me. Plus there is a M240B with about 2500 rounds in each MRAP. The MRAPs are a little top heavy, y'all think enough zombies together could topple one over?

I must admit, I am having a hard time with the numbers of people on both threads going with a .22 rifle.
Sure, ammo is cheap, and maybe lots of us own them, but taking small game is much easier with a shotgun, isn't it? Good for birds, it would have to be fairly decent for squirrels and rabbits... at least for me. Taking out small game with a .22 requires a pretty good shot, and for anything bigger than a rabbit, you'd do better with a hunting caliber rifle anyway, right?
Anyway, on-hand I would have to say:
1. AR 15 with 2500 rounds of .223 sealed in battle-packs
2. CZ82 with 1500 rounds of 9mm makarov and 5 spare mags
3. Remington 870 with tactical stock (gotta get me a side-saddle shell carrier) and +/- 800 shells.
that should be sufficient to get me into safe-country, or at least into a better neighborhood.
and this thread got me to thinking, I need to stock up on some 9mm, .308 and 12-guage ammo! Never know when the Zombies will come knocking!
I'm not thinking so much about zombies, but here's what I would do...
Ruger PC9, P89, & Mossberg 500 12g
Rossi "Puma" 45LC, SAA 45LC, & Ruger Mini 14
Have the least amount of ammo for the 45LC 3-400rds, everything else I have more than enough to hold off a small army.
The wife is wicked with the PC9, not so much with the P89, but it shares the same ammo/mags. Neither of us favor the shotgun for extended shooting, but it can't be beat for close-up-and-personal.
I like the extra "punch" the 45LC gives me over the 9mm, even if it is slower to reload. The Mini 14 gives me a little more "reach" and provides a volume of fire not available in the 45LC.
