Personally, I think that a suppressed 10/22 or similar would be the absolutely ideal zombie killing weapon. It is light, accurate, quiet, and the ammo is cheap, extremely light, and extremely plentiful. For Zed, you don't have to do massive tissue damage, he'll never bleed out, and you don't need deep penetration. You have to crack the melon, and a .22 at rifle velocities is fairly good at that. Inside 50m or so, it's probably easier to hit with a good .22 rifle than with just about anything else. Follow up shots are, of course, very fast with such a rifle. With a suppressed version, you won't alert every undead in 1000m that you're around, you won't deafen yourself, you won't blind yourself with muzzle blast at night/indoors, and so on.

If I had one available to me, I'd be hard pressed to leave it behind...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

This limits me to what I currently have so unlike the last post, I have no m21 (or m1a)

    So I'm bringing the:

    Springfield XD .45
    Mossberg 590A1
    Savage 111 in .270 win

Oh and if we're talking specifically zombies......a carpenters hammer.

Each person can have three guns?

    For me

10/22 (currently have about 2,000 rounds for it)
30-06 (about 200 rounds of precision handloads)
and my XD .40 but bring along the 9mm conversion barrel! (about 1,500 hundred each of 9mm and .40)

For my wife - She would probably grab the her own 10/22, 1911, and the keltec .380.

My 7 year old daughter would bring her .22 Crickett - she can break clay pigeons at 50 yards with it.

With my current ammo supply it would be :

    Russian SKS
    S&W 1911
    S&W mod 66

    Mossberg 500, I have 3 barrels and 2 stocks and a ton of slugs/buckshot.

SA .40 subcompact, again plenty of FMJ and high cap magazines.

Star M43 9mm, tons of FMJ and a very common caliber so I can scrounge up more ammo later. Also the most accurate semi auto I own.

Here is what I would go with based on ammo.

    Ruger 10/22 2k+
    AK 47 4k+
    M&P40 full size 3k+

The 22LR would be great for head shots from the roof and not too much noise

The AK and M&P would be great leaving the house guns.

Assuming I have to lug the ammo around, I'd pick the 9mm P226, an AR in 16" carbine and an additional upper scoped with a long barrel. If the upper doesn't count as another gun, then a back up 9mm (I don't currently own a shotgun).

If I'm just defending a location, and don't need to carry arms and ammo, then I'd delete the back up 9mm and add another rifle.

really depends what kind of zombies:

if it's the slow-moving, "brains" chanting, deteriorating as they walk zombies I'm thinking a scoped 10/22 would more than suffice, an 870 and hatchet or claw hammer for the close ones. If I must have a 3rd gun my bolt .30-06 for the really distant ones.

if it's the rabid zombies who always seem to be sprinting I'd take both my 870's and my xd45.

If I saw them coming up my driveway right now, I have an AKM with a 100-round drum loaded with softpoints. All I have to do is snap it in and 'wind the clock'!

All my other toys are close to being ready - Mrs Cat can gather them while I'm fighting off the horde.

I almost chose the SKS for hunting larger game but I plan on making my way to my parents house (we have a general family zombie plan) and Dad has one so I'll just bring him extra ammo. We can share my .45 ammo and he has 12 ga. reloading equipment.

Don't forget you'll probably want an ammo free weapon, like a machete, sword, or large knife. It must be capable of quick decapitation.
