Hi 80's to low 90's here the last week. Temp isn't so bad but the humidity is almost thick enough to swim in. 117 sounds bad wet or dry.

I understand the revenue they bring. It's kind of like a job you don't really like but the pay and benefits are just too good to pass up. So you endure, but you sure do look forward to your time off.

I'm next door in NM and it's only 80. Nice dark clouds overhead, there's that rain smell. I know what you mean though, I used to have relatives in Phoenix we visited every August when I was a kid. Didn't go outside until after dark. Very humid too, everyone had refrigerated AC.

Had 102 here today broke a 33-year record. Think I will have a cool one or two now.

There is a reason my Phoenix area relatives always left of Southern California during the summer. Not enough ice cubes.

Rocky just turned 116 the other day and still making fantastic holsters.
The arthritis in the fingers is slowing him up a wee bit though.

You know, I love summer and I love the heat of summer. But, 117 degrees? To-heck-with-that.

    You're in Arizona.

Hire two undocumented residents to stand on both sides of you all day long - teach them to say "Salami Salami Baloney" and have them fan you all day with big Egyptian royal fans on those long poles.
That is "one of those jobs" that most Americans would not be willing to do.

Well it was 93 here in Detroit with a "feels like" 100. I still remember last winter and it will be here again before I'm ready. So, I'm enjoying the heat. But I will say, I'm glad its not 117 especially since I don't have central air.

I was hiking at high elevation in Glacier National Park over the 4th and it was 30 degrees... they just plowed the road last week.

I would post some photos of the frozen lakes, but I don't want to torture you.

Oh wait, yes I do... :)

Not 117, but the outside thermometer on the house hit a max of 102.5 yesterday. This was in Maryland between Baltimore and DC.

It hit 100F here, today, for a couple hours. Zero wind. The fans just blew around hot air, so they didn't do much good.
