Ok, so basically, you were hitting on her and kissing up to her. I don't think that is a tactic that we can implement on a daily basis.

If i am concealed carrying, i do not bother. I know it is not required, but I do it just because they have to check all weapons unless you have a permit, so I don't want to deal with the argument that I ended up dealing with anyway. So I walk past the gentleman and this girl, who admittedly was kind of cute, walks up and says sir I need to tag your weapon so we can verify that it is unloaded. To which I replied, no you don't because it is not unloaded and I am not removing it from the holster to unload for safety reasons. The gentleman who saw my permit stepped in and told her, don't worry about him he is ok. To which she replied, No he isn't the manager told me to tag all guns, carried or not carried. So i simply pointed to the part on the sign that said permit holders excluded. Basically she did not understand the policy, we both apologized, and went our seperate ways. Funny how little misunderstandings can be worked out over a conversation isn't it. Oh and btw, she gave me her number and asked me to teach her about guns.

    Bingo!

    finished it.

FWIIW I can assure you, from personal observation, it goes back to PI in the '50s, at a minimum -- FMJ popularization of it notwithstanding, that's not the origin.

Anyone know if it was used in other branches or earlier in the USMC -- as I expect it was?

BTW -- Re: the OP, I had a similar "discussion" at Gander Mountain, Roanoke -- only not with a nice looking young lady and did get a date out of it. Thanks goodness!

    # 1 -- It might have been "shooting" in the movies. Or maybe even at "hollywood" boot.

But in the late '50s & the '60s in the USMC at PI it was "killing."

    # 2 -- I never saw/heard of a DI doing "the" rifle/gun march, himself, as it appears in that clip.

It was always the "maggot" who called a rifle, a gun. I fact, I don't think I ever saw anyone make that mistake after the "maggot" stage of boot.

    # 3 Albeit there was some "the whole squad or platoon" repercussions for somethings, the "This is my rifle This is my gun was always an individual deal, IME -- not as it appears in that clip.

    As always YMMV.

As an aside anyone remember "hay foot/straw foot"?

It was "fighting" in FMJ, not "shooting" or "killing." Better alliteration with "fun" that way, maybe...

    And well done, Chris.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.
