FWIIW I can assure you, from personal observation, it goes back to PI in the '50s, at a minimum -- FMJ popularization of it notwithstanding, that's not the origin.

Anyone know if it was used in other branches or earlier in the USMC -- as I expect it was?

BTW -- Re: the OP, I had a similar "discussion" at Gander Mountain, Roanoke -- only not with a nice looking young lady and did get a date out of it. Thanks goodness!
Actually this cadence was started by a Marine Drill Instructor at MCRD San Deigo(not Parris Island) in 1951. This is according to the Director at the Marine Corps Museum....

    It origionally goes:

This is my rifle, this is my gun
This ones for killing, this ones for fun
The rifle will kill all day
The gun gets to have fun and play
You cant stop a Marine and his Guns
This ones for killing, this ones for fun

    I had heard that.

I may not have been all that clear in my post. I was just saying that, from personal knowledge, in the '50s the first two stanzas were in use at PI. And that it was "killing" not other venisons.

Later in life, I had heard that it had started on the left-coast and also had heard the last four stanzas. However, I could not substantiate that.

I was a true Brown Shoe Marine, many years ago.

BTW -- no such thing as a former Marine, ex Marine, etc -- save maybe after a DD and that's not me.

this coming from a girl, remember that the context is probably different, making him less "retardedly lucky"... she is a woman who works in a store that, among other things, has a very large firearms department and often accompanying range. Finding a woman in an outdoors *and* rifle gun and archery store who isn't put off by guns is less of a retardedly lucky kind of possibility than in any other venue except perhaps a gunshow.

    Just my two cents.

And Chris -- don't post pics. Even if she is Megan Fox attractive, this story will probably play better in all of their imaginations and however wonderful she may be, the pic might just ruin it for all of them. This is not to detract from her in any way... its the way of the world.

Edit: And I'm sorry it didnt work out. Us girls we sometimes have to accept things in stages. Go figure. I'm a gun owner and the distances between me and my gun at night seem to change at random. Tolerances are not always rational.

We don't have CHPs in Indiana. We have a "license to carry a handgun," and either OC or CC in public is illegal without one. If you have a LTCH, either OC or CC is legal.

This is less and less about OC, (not that it really had much to do with OC in the first place) its getting moved.
