    Le Tour

I watched the first big alpine stage of the Tour today. Sadly Lance crashed twice on the run in to the last 2 big climbs of the day. He spent all of his energy catching up to the leaders after his crash. He cracked (ran out of gas) on the last 2 climbs and lost almost 12 minutes of time to the leaders. His tour is, for the most part, over and he has a 0% chance to win his 8th Tour.

Lance's teammate Levi Leipheimer (He's an American too) put in a good ride and is still in contention. Lance will have to ride for Levi from now on. Levi is a strong rider who has finished in the top three in the past. He has a solid chance but is not a top favorite.

My heart sank while watching Le Tour today. I just stared at the TV in disbelief. However, Lance was a consummate professional even when the Euskadel rider crashed him. If I were Lance, I might have stomped on his head before remounting my bike and proceeding.

Pity...still though, Mr. Armstrong is another model of what you can do, with only the cards you are dealt. He's forever a hero in my eyes.

Sad for Lance, and unfortunately Leipheimer is not a strong enough climber to win.

And if you did that, you'd be sitting at home today. The Tour has rules!

Most folks are hoping for a win by anyone BUT Contador (SP?), I think Andy looks pretty good.

    +1 Go Andy.

At this point my money is on Andy Schleck. Id like to see Levi do well, but I dont think hell hang w/ the big boys in the rest of the mountain stages. That said Contador will be tough to beat, hes got a strong team riding with him, as was seen yesterday.
Regardless of who wins, its been an exciting tour so far. Never seen so many crashes, and even a fight.

    Update

Andy Schleck lost the yellow jersey today from a mechanical failure. Alberto Contador displayed poor sportsmanship by attacking Schleck when Andy's chain popped off. It's considered poor sport to attack during a mechanical failure. Schleck lost about 40 seconds and the yellow jersey to Contador.

At the yellow jersey ceremony fans booed Contador for his poor sportsmanship. I have watched the Tour for years and this is the first time I've ever seen a rider booed.

As a footnote I'll mention that during Lance Armstrong's run at his 7 wins he and rival Jan Ulric always stopped and waited when the other rider had a bike malfunction or a crash. It's a tradition but not a rule. I've never seen a rider break this tradition before today. Contador is a total tool!

I agree about Contador. He's also not a very good team player. Look at what he did to Lance last year. And this year he basically ruined Vinny's first chance at a stage win by dragging that other guy to the top.

Contador did what he did because he's scared of Andy. Now Andy will simply be more motivated. I think Contador screwed himself in the long run.
