Met John Rich today, and talked guns!

We went to a CAO cigar event today here in Nashville, and not only did I get to meet Cigar Dave but also John Rich from Big & Rich. Rather than the usual small talk, I mentioned shooting and guns to him, knowing he's a gun guy. You should have see his eyes light up!

Cool guy. It was a fun morning.

Sounds like great conversation.... I'd love to talk guns with Ted Nugent or Glenn Beck.

Apparently he's as much a gun horse as he is a cloths horse, having quite an assortment. He has his own INDOOR shooting range at his house. Likes big revolvers and .45's. He was coy about his carry piece, but I'm betting it's something discreet, like a snubby because he wasn't printing anywhere. (just ask my wife-she checked )

In reference to his indoor range, he said "You have to stay in practice in case you ever have to draw on someone."

    Yeah,
I've met a few celebrities. Don't really give a rip about most. The country music types though have mostly seemed like genuine decent people. That Mr. Rich is into cigars and guns, and is so friendly made an impression.

Please enlighten us unwashed masses: CAO? Cigar Dave?

I assume she didn't check for a smart carry.

LOL. Sorry. I forget not everyone speaks cigar!

CAO is a premium cigar maker. They have their North american business HQ here in Nashville. They had a party event to give away a custom CAO motorcycle by Sucker Punch Sally's that has been making the rounds at shops and events. The theme was "Free to smoke, free to ride".
Cigar Dave is an XM/Sirius radio show host. He does a 2 hour show weekly foucused on cigars, spirits, etc. He regularly beats up on "the nanny state" and anti smoke/anti 2a types. Very entertaining.

And no, she didn't check for a Smart Carry...at least not while I was looking!

Judging by the crowd, if that is you (dark hair, olive green shirt) talking to John, You are an imposing figure, then I notice Lurch behind you, (bald/earring),and he begins to make you look like Mini-Me.
Is that J. Riches BG nonchalantly standing guard or what?

Yup. That's me. All 6'3 and 300+ lbs.
And no, believe it or not, that tall guys works for CAO!

Mr Rich drove himself, and walked in unannounced and escorted. I've noticed in Nashville, unless they're going to a big event, with big crowds or media, most of the country music stars travel by themselves, without any obvious protection.

you know obvious is the key word in that phrase, The most telling thing for me recently in regards to country music stars was the flood in nashville. It's a different frame of mind and a type A personality- there is a flood hitting my house, guess I better put my waders on and load the boat.

Well, I guess I should have said they often have NO protection, obvious or otherwise. I used to do protective work, and can still spot agents a mile away, casual or otherwise. Mr. Rich was alone.

And I agree. The Nashville work ethic in the flood was something to see.

I wasn't really referring to agents when I was talking about obvious protection. I could see in my mind where a good number of country music stars would have the right mindset to protect themselves if required. I'm not exactly sure on this either because I wasn't there but I would guess the majority of fans and press present at the event treated Jon Rich respectfully. I don't know why but like it has been stated before country music just seems significantly more "real" than other genres.
