Actually they turned the light off a decade ago. What has happened recently is:
Due to budgetary constraints, layoffs of the majority of our maintenance staff combined with recent labor unrest and high unemployment have lead to extreme shortages and there has been some pilferage of company assets. One asset which has been pilfered is the copper wiring, switch gear, as well as the antique signs and the lamp which adorned the tunnel near the end. These comprised the light which, until recently, proudly lit the end of the tunnel for all to see provided that they were high enough on the corporate ladder with earnings over 10 million per quarter and had a corner office with a view.
Unfortunately due to the actions by a minority few, those whose view of the light at the end of the tunnel has had to be replaced with an ocean view office and 16 weeks paid vacation at the company resort on the corporate owned tropical island near the Bahamas. We are sorry for the inconvenience to those who were affected.
