Trapped a fox that was trying to get my chickens last night.
He was pretty. I've never seen a fox up close before today.

Awesome....a pretty red did ya relocate or kill if you killed I hope you save the hide.
I kill things that want to kill my chickens.
How would you save his hide? I've never skinned anything besides deer, although I guess the process is the same. What do you do to preserver it?

Now, you get to call the conservation dept., or you can take a really, really long drive...![]()
Nice, just be careful, here in North Carolina we have a very bad problem with foxes carrying rabies. As far as tanning a hide here are a couple of links to give you an idea:

As far as skinning you cut around the feet then make a slit from one back leg to the other cutting around the genitals and anus. Then carefully peel the skin off turning it inside out and place it on a stretcher in order to scrape off the fat and allow it to dry.
When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

Go to www.trapperman.com or google skinning a fox.
Yes, raccoons are especially notorious around here for rabies and distemper. A good reason to keep my dog's up to date on their shots.
This little guy was acting like he should have been though. I saw him cross the road onto my property one night in my headlights a few weeks back, and he was trapped in the overnight hours as well. He appeared healthy and his only complaint before he met me seemed to be some fleas.
