I don't get the screaming and running thing either. Other than a quick yelp in surprise and maybe a disgusted, "EWWW, GROSS!" while retreating from the creature in question while I look for my husband and implore him to do his killing duties.

Screaming and running is reserved for serious scenarios only.

When we first moved to Florida, my wife called me into the kitchen early one evening. There was a small, black snake looking rather lost in the middle of the kitchen floor. I immediately ran and got my bedside .357. My response to, "what you gonna do with that"? was explaining to her that I was just going to shoot it. She told me to put that thing away and get her the broom. I went to the utility room, couldn't find the broom so I brought back a long handled axe. Before she could say anything, I chopped that sucker in two. No more problem! At least there wasn't after we had the floor re-tiled. The next time she saw a snake she didn't bother to call me, she just chased it outside with a broom. That gal's just mean when she's got a broom in her hand.
