Still, with crime rates rising, prisons are overcrowded and additional jail space will not be available anytime soon.

The early release part of the article struck close to home for many states, particularly California.

What a sad state of affairs. But the fault lies with the British people, they are the ones that put up with this tripe and keep electing the government officials that come up with these policies.

Sure, things there are worse than they have been for a long time, but then again so are many other places.
Stay out of certain places in the UK (inner city areas,) and one really won't have a problem.

But for sure, politicians have screwed it up big time since WWII with socialist politics. - It tends to be a trend though, throughout the world unfortunately, and with Obama and his government, the USA is heading in the same direction.

I believe that the "violence" mentioned in the UK, will included everything, from somebody being punched in a bar (drink & stupidity) then reporting it, purse snatching (with or without a physical assault,) etc?
The overall murder rate is low compared to many other so called "developed" countries. Brits tend to beat the snot out of each other at times, but generally stop short of killing! :)
