    Motorcycle question

Has anybody taken the motorcycle knowledge test in PA recently? I am going for my permit to ride in a few days and I have been studying extensively. I was wondering just how difficult this thing is.

    I hate taking tests!!!!!

Any advice for taking this test?

Sorry, took it in 1981.... but then, like here, I just got there, picked up their booklet, read it and took the test. If you've been riding on the street, the answers are just common sense.
Here, it was the riding part that was a bit tense. Nobody told me to bring a 350 Honda and my stretched Harley got real interesting going around orange cones.....

I just passed the California exam. It was pretty tough. Lots of stupid questions.

Care to elaborate, Rugerman? What kind of questions did they throw at you?

I have never driven a motorcycle. I need to pass this test to get the permit to take the safety (learning) course. After I pass this course I will get my license automatically.

Glad you are doing this test Jay - new days on a bike need great care. The one thing no one can supply is experience.

I cannot comment on the test as have been riding 40 and more years. Good luck with it tho and stay very safe when you get out on them wheels - ya hear!

If it's anything like the KY test it's more or less straight forward questions. Common sense will get most all of them right and the few it won't cover will be had by reading the motorcycle chapter in the DMV booklet.

Call your nearest community college or vo-tech school to find out if they have a riders program.

In oregon we have: http://teamoregon.orst.edu/to_web/index.shtml .

When you go through them they are authorized to give the test (you watch video's and have class discussion and then take the test that day while it is fresh in your mind) and then they have two days of practice before they have the test. All of this by-passes the DMV tests and does give 'some' experience.

Im also getting ready to get a bike. And the class here in Indiana supplys small 185 suzukis to do the test with. I was told to use a small bike for the test which makes it easier. Makes sense to me. Im getting a touring bike and wouldnt want to take the test with a goldwing or venture. My two bike picks. Good luck with your testing.

Sorry, I can't say about the Pa. test. The Florida test was very manageable. The info was available online and, as I recall, I studied it for two or three hours before the test and had no trouble. Hope you do well.

Not PA, (sorry) but took it in MD (can't be too different huh?) in 2004.

Ya know for the most part, answer the questions with what They want to hear. Most of them are in all actuality common sense, but some aren't. Just put your mind in a 'do as told, answer as told' mentallity and you'll be fine.

Talking Teacher Responding on Taking tests

LOL This is supposed to be my summer vacation! You sound just like my students. Okay...first, calm down. It's never as bad as you think it will be. Kinda like getting blood taken at the Doc. Get a good night's sleep the night before, and have a good breakfast. Do NOT try to "cram" right before the test. This raises the possibility of a "brain freeze" and you lose all the info at a critical moment. RELAX. You've studied and you've practiced. You'll be fine. You know what FINE means, right?

Got my TN MC license in 92 and it seems that the test was fairly easy, made 100% on the written part and the only part I missed on the riding part was missing a turn signal pulling out of the lot...

Look for a local MSF Course. It will teach you plenty, and typically lowers your insurance costs. :)
