Taylor said winds exacerbated the fire, which was apparently sparked in the 12 p.m. hour Sunday by ammunition fired by Utah National Guardsmen at nearby Camp Williams.

Yeah, that happens. "We" lit up a few acres just with a CS grenade. Seen it plenty of other times with tracers lighting up the brush. It doesn't take much when the conditions are right.

Got to give them credit for taking responsibility...
We're all in favor of reducing violent crime. It's just that pro-gunners have a method that is proven effective. Anti-gunners don't.

A lot of our outdoor ranges here in California won't allow you to shoot steel or bi-metal jacketed rounds because of that (Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear etc). Heck a couple of weeks ago, a wildfire started down in Orange County when a golfer struck a rock with his club when he took a shot from the rough.

Had some dipstick about 2 years ago was shooting an SKS on the 50 yard indoor range,I saw tracers going downrange ,I banged on the window to alert range officials,by the time he stopped there was a fire going, the material has a fire retardant sprayed on it so the fire was extinguished pretty quick, and Dipstick was booted off the range permanently
Over in England we had to use British ranges for M60 qualifications, they said no tracers you'll burn up the range,we get there and the range is nothing but charred grass with one little tree about 200 yards out,we were delinking M60 belts and removing tracers ,one of out guys started linking all the tracers together,so we shoot and after were about done this guy runs up to a gun with about 100 linked tracers, lock and loads and opened fire on the tree, couple seconds later theres a plume of smoke.cease fire is yelled and we grab buckets of water to go put the tree out.
