So Is William Shatner A Gun Guy?
OK most everyone has probably seen the clip that was posted here several times of Shatner in the lawyer show where he draws on an armed robber and shoots him in the foot, while making jokes about it.
So I am watching his new show this week, "Bleep my Dad says" and I notice in the first scenes he keeps his shotgun on a rack in the living room, and uses it to answer the door. Granted its 9PM, but apparently still light outside.
Then the next day he is wearing the classic "Photographer's vest" cover garment.
I don't know if his wardrobe department is trying to convey him as a gun nut, or if it's his personal choice to wear the vest.
Any thoughts?

Hard to tell, I don't recall him taking a position one way or the other.

I was wondering the same thing. I saw the previews of the show, and the "vest" is one of the reasons I watched it the first time. I was curious to see if he was a photographer, a "gun" guy, of something else. The first episode didn't really elaborate a whole lot. I've got to watch it a few more times. Maybe it will start a whole new craze of Shatner fans wearing vests regardless of if they are carrying or not. Just imagine, you see a bunch of guys at the mall wearing vests and you wonder, are they fishermen, photographers, concealed carry holders, or Shatner groupies!

So, you are an actor in a TV show. Do you really think you get to tell the writers all about the character? Or, do you think that the characters are conceived by the writers?
Keep telling youself, "It's make-believe. It's make-believe. It's ........"
And if you are actually curious, find his fan website and ask him.

Not exactly. If you are on Twitter, one of the most popular people to follow is Justin. Visit the link. For a couple years now, he's just been posting weird stuff his dad says, stuff like...
"No. Humans will die out. We're weak. Dinosaurs survived on rotten flesh. You got diarrhea last week from a Wendy's."
That's pretty mild for Justin's dad. He usually drops some f-bombs in his insults to his son. So this feed gets real popular, Justin gets a book deal out of it, and then Hollywood thought his dad would be a great character for a sitcom and got Shatner to take the role. As it happens, the Twitter feed is hysterically funny, but the TV adaptation doesn't seem to work.

I've reserched a lot of actors and where they stand on the issues. Comments made by William Shatner would indicate that he supports the 2A. He's not as vocal as Tom Selleck, Bruce Willis or Demi Moore, but he has made favorable comments off camera.

I always thought the pocket phaser was pretty cool, but there was something about the full sized original phaser that always made the Klingons think twice, but come to think of it, most of those guys only carried big knives...

Pa'tak! The bat'leth is more than a knife! It is the ultimate weapon forged by Kahless himself. Your weak human mind could never comprehend it.

I'm very (pleasantly) surprised by this. I clearly remember some TV show years ago where Shatner hosted and he said, "This is William Shatner reminding you that a gun in the home is often more dangerous than an intruder," or some such stupidity.
I suppose he could have just been spouting a line that was fed to him by some writers, though.

I think Shatners position depends alot on how much he's being paid.
