I am thinking about getting one of these and am looking for some input. What do you like and dislike about them?
Thanks,
Mike

Don't know. The only Green Egg I've had was one that was colored at Easter time. It wasn't all that big, but it was boiled and it was good. That is, if you like boiled eggs.

Why not just go with a weber grill for FAR less money.? It does the same exact thing. Call the Weber a little Black Egg. I see no advantage. Yes, I know, it retains heat longer. Big deal. I have heard also that the ceramic liner can crack fairly easily. Waste of money imo.

I've seen those, and candidly I don't think there's any way to justify the price. It's just a smoker for crying out loud.
I bought one of these for $100 in the grocery store, and I guarantee that my cooking on this is as good as anything you'll get out of an $800 egg.

Awesome smoker. It smokes your meat in a lot less time than the metal smokers. I love mine. Makes great wings, turkey legs ......
I've had mine for 13 years. No cracks. Some of the hardware needs replacing as it has rusted. My dog loved to pull off the cover, so it got rained on quite often.
I have had several styles of smokers and grills thru my cooking career. The Green Egg is BY FAR the best cooker on the market. In the right hands, it will smoke, grill, and bake. Makes one of the best pizzas I've eaten. Pork shoulders are awesome. My wife will not eat a steak in a resturant because they can't cook it like I can on the Egg. Go for and don't look back!

My neighbor in Tennessee had one. He paid A LOT more than I paid for my grill from Lowe's. He liked my burgers better.
That is all I can tell you.

Ditto the 100 dollar grill. Mine has cast iron grating, had to season them, best grill I've ever had.I bought one of these for $100 in the grocery store, and I guarantee that my cooking on this is as good as anything you'll get out of an $800 egg.
But someone I used to work with had an egg, swore by it. So I guess it's a matter of taste and how deep your pockets are :)

For pizza this extension piece (link below) made for the Weber grill works really well. The problem with grilling on the BGE is that you have to lift the lid to see whats going on. When you do you let out all the heat.
As you can see in the following link there is no problem generating heat in the Weber grill and with the addition of this riser it works way better the BGE.

I hear great things about the BGE and Komodo. Me personally, I can't justify the price. I do my smoking on a WSM and my grilling on a Ducane gasser.
If ya got the extra cash, go for it. I'm sure it won't let you down. Sometimes it would be nice to get those smoking times down on a big pork butt or brisket.
They may be good to cook in but as a former C-5 crewmember you have not been in a real bag-drag until you have offloaded three of those![]()

I have the small brown "Big Green Egg". It cost around $149-199 in the mid-nineties. I don't really cook hamburgers on mine. I save it for smoking. I can smoke a turket breast or legs for about 1 hour to 1 and a half and you can see a good 1/4 inch of pink in the meat from the smoke. I have never been abled to do that with any grill.
I don't think I would pay $800 for one though.
