The biggest piece of advice I an give you about a used Jeep is this; Shop around and know what you are getting into. Jeeps tend to be beat on or modified by people who have no idea what they are doing. I'd buy one that is bone stock, or at least one with proper documentation of work being done by a reputable shop.
With that said, it is easy to find one that is in great shape. A lot of people buy them not aware just what the vehicle is and end up selling rather quick for a loss.

M&P Doc- Just ask.
Check: Steering bushings for play. Bottom skids for damage. Control arm brackets for cracks. Rear fuel tank for dents. Engine mounts for cracks. if it has an aftermarket lift, check to see if it still has the slip yoke and if it does it will be a bad angle and the u joints will be prematurely worn.
This will tell you immediately if it has been beat offroad or not.
TONS of fun, but QC ain't real strong.
Think about it REAL HARD. If you do get one, consider yourself ruined for life. You'll never get the bug out of your system. They're just too much fun.
If you're looking for one for fun, well then it's ideal.
They don't have a great rep for being reliable, though.

Had a Jeep wrangler for 130000 miles. Oil changes, new muffler once. Sold it to my friend. She still has it. Works great.
You didn't mention how you were going to drive it, city, highway, or on-off-road. My son just got rid of his because he injured his back and could not stand to ride in it on the highway. If you live a long way from a medical clinic, don't drive it on the way to get your PSA test. You won't be happy with the results.
This is the best advice i can give you apart from what has been said already.Look for who the owner is.If its a young person with little money and alot of mods, the Jeeps probably been abused and had junk work done.Look for someone who bought a Jeep because it was cheap, also, possibly find someone who works for Chrysler Dodge Jeep and whos willing to sell theirs.Factory workers take some of the best care.

I hear there's a little old lady in Pasadena with one. Had a Cherokee and J-20 PU. Both sucked the bank accounts dry in a hurry. If you're a good mechanic and don't mind it occupying your garage and spare time, you can save yourself a fortune in labor. Nuff said.

I own a Jeep, but without knowing your intended use, like gun geezer said, I'm not sure what to say about it.
The only Jeep I want is like the one I had in Korea. Great little jeep and fun to drive. Oh well, those days are gone and so are most of those old Jeeps. If I found one I'm sure I could not afford the price.

Do it! I got my first Jeep last January and I love it. There's no end of things you can do to them. I've done almost all the work on mine myself and there's a sense of pride knowing I didn't buy a big Jeep, I built a big Jeep.
What kind of driving will you be doing mostly?
Also, get a stick. Real Jeeps are sticks.

You know there's a "Jeep wave", right? Kinda like the motorcycle guys do a "low five". Are you prepared for the commitment?
