While I certainly understand 'street justice', it is not very smart when the charges on the victim(s) are worse that the original charges on the dirtbag(s).

I can't say that what they did was right. Holding him hostage and beating him. They should have just caught him, called police and turned him over along with complaints for charges to be filed for theft. The time to beat him silly was when he stole the stuff in the first place during the act.
