Your not a fan of ANY of the Coen Brothers movies?
They have made several classics themselves.

The truth is that the original True Grit was not at all perfect from an acting standpoint. Both John Wayne and Robert Duval gave superb performances.
But both Glenn Campbell and even Kim Darby? I cringed at many of the lines they said in the movie. They were so bad, that they probably helped Wayne get the Oscar. For even an average actor would look great compared to them.
I'm hopeful that the new movie is going to have a better cast overall. Besides Matt Damon being way better than Glen Campbell, from viewing the trailers for the movie, Hailee Steinfeld looks like she is really talented.

I have seen the previews. It just DOESN'T work. I think Bridges is a great actor but he really can't replace the Duke.

I thought that John Wayne did a much better job of actually ACTING, in the sequel "Rooster Cogburn". Hepburn's performance "pushed" him somewhat, IMHO.
I'm looking forward to seeing Hailee Steinfeld's performance. In the trailer, it appears that she absolutely nails the charactor of Mattie (Maddie?).

Very good point, I would have to agree with you on that.
It did not have as good a script, though. Especially way over the top regarding credibility with the Gatling Gun.
But seeing the interaction of Wayne with Hepburn was a real treat, and easily the best thing about the movie.
