    Show your age

    Who remebers:

Soda cans with the seam up the side, and it had to be opened with an opener(no pull tab). Machines had a small door which you set the can inside and pushed the door down on it.
Buying ice cream treats that came in a bag open on one end.
Drug stores where they mixed most of the drugs on site, and there was always "that smell"
Coca cola machines with no buttons, you put your money in and all it sold was Coca cola.

Ah the good old days. Sautrday mornings we watched the test pattern on TV unti 6:30 when a western movie came on - Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry or Roy Rogers. After the movie the regular Saturday morning fare - westerns, cartoons, Rocky Jones Space Ranger while munching on the Friday fish dinner leftovers.

There was a lot of good TV Saturday mornings then mom kicked us out of the house after lunch. Fresh air and exercise.

Three channels on TV was batting a thousand. You had to go wiggle the ears to get the third one.

9" TV screen, the plastic you put over it to make it color (green on the bottom, blue on the top). $ .25 for the movie, soda and pop corn. $ .29 gas. Oh the memories!

    You had a TV?
I remember radio shows...and our first TV. It was big and the picture was about 8" x 8"...black and white, and three channels.

No computers, no phones other than land lines with party lines at that...noisy neighbors would listen in...we'd use whistles to irritate them.

My first new convertible when I was 20 cost me $3,200 out the door.

My first teaching contract was $6,100 for a whole year...thought I was loaded. Earning $10K was a dream.

There was discipline in school...real discipline! Lip off to teachers or cops and you could get roughed up a bit, and you certainly did not want your parents to find out.

    I paid $.17 for a gallon of gas, and $.15 for a McDonald's hamburger.

We always had TV, but I remember when getting cable was a huge deal and having to get up to change the channel. It was no big deal to have one car (it was Dads of course) and when you went to a friends house, you always address the parents as Mr. and Mrs.

DON"'T turn the knob too fast. Having to wiggle the knob. Fine tuning.

    Jungle Jim movies.

I was there. No TV then but for 20 cents on a Saturday afternoon you could catch a matinée and watch Roy Rogers and Dale Evans until almost dark (If you could get 20 cents out of Mom or Dad that is).

Man, I remember some of that stuff but a lot of you guys sound like my dad! I hated the party line we had as well as the 50 foot cord on the phone, my dad wouldn't buy a remote TV until I moved out, gas was about a buck a gallon when I started driving. My first car was a black, '78 Cutlass that was 6 years old when I bought it. Candy bars were a quarter when I was a kid and for a buck, you could get 2 comic books and a cherry coke (not the crap they sell today) at the corner store. I also remember riding the school bus with my .30-30 for a wood finishing class we had.
