VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — A Secret Service agent assigned to protect Nancy Reagan is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the hip at a Ventura County Sheriff's Department shooting range.
Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Mike Aranda says the gun went off as the agent was putting it back in its holster Friday at the range in Camarillo.

Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME.

I bet the retention strap on the holster got caught in the trigger guard.....
Thats what I'm thinking to. Probably was doing holster work and forgot to decock his weapon before holstering it. I see that type of thing every once and a while when I'm working with the M9, brand new 2LTs who don't really know how to use the thing forget to drop the hammer before holstering.
The FBI is supposed to be the end-all expert on guns but I would think the SS, given the nature of their needs for a firearm, would be wound tighter than a spring over weapons proficiency. I'm thinking this guy's new assignment will be a far sight from glamourous. I wonder what the world's worst job is for a SS agent? Maybe bust him back to uniformed gate guard at the WH?
