    Early Pilot's License

Well, my manager gave us a tidbit of information today that was pretty interesting.

His father was one of the pioneers of aviation in Utah. He was a pilot in the 30s. My manager brought out a picture of his father's first pilot's license. It's quite a relic. The License number on the front was a whopping 223!!!

That's not even the cool part. The signing authority on the front of the card is the cool part.

    Any guesses?????

    The one,

    The only,

    Orville Wright.!!!!

I didn't believe it until I saw it. He also had a picture of the very FIRST license signed by Herbert Hoover. That's cool, but not as personal as his own father.

I wish I had a picture of my uncles old licence. He's been gone a while now but when he finally surrendered his licence (he was ex-WWII Army Aircorps and a retired airline pilot) it turned out it was a handwritten licence on a piece of writing paper! It also stated that because he had voluntarily obtained a licence, though not at that time required, it was nonrevocable for life unless he surrendered it. I think he was in his late 80's when he did and I think everyone at the FAA breathed a little easier. His was supposed to be the last one of it's kind in existence. His last plane was a restored B-25 called "Chapter 11"!

    Here's some pics

I found these pictures on the internet.

    The first issued license (#1).

And this random one is 5 numbers larger than my manager's father's license, but it looks the same, pretty much.
