    Question Something To Ponder!!

    AIN'T IT THE TRUTH!!?

Joe Smith started the day early having set his
    alarm clock
(MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6am.
    While his coffeepot
    (MADE IN CHINA )
was perking, he shaved with his
    electric razor
    (MADE IN HONG KONG ).
    He put on a
    dress shirt
    (MADE IN SRI LANKA ),
    designer jeans
    (MADE IN SINGAPORE )
    and
    tennis shoes
    (MADE IN KOREA )
After cooking his breakfast in his new
    electric skillet
    (MADE IN INDIA )
    he sat down with his
    calculator
    (MADE IN MEXICO )
to see how much he could spend today. After setting his
    watch
    (MADE IN TAIWAN )
    to the radio
    (MADE IN INDIA )
    he got in his car
    (MADE IN GERMANY )
    filled it with GAS
    (from Saudi Arabia )
    and continued his search
    for a good paying job.
    At the end
    of yet another discouraging
    and fruitless day
    checking his
    Computer
    (Made In Malaysia ),
Joe decided to relax for a while.
    He put on his sandals
    (MADE IN BRAZIL )
    poured himself a glass of
    wine
    (MADE IN FRANCE )
    and turned on his
    TV
    (MADE IN INDONESIA ),
    and then wondered
    why he can't find
    a good paying job
    in the U.S.............

Unfortunately, our current system of government is forcing these large businesses to take their production overseas. We need big changes before a lot of companies will increase production in the US.

As long as people want the best bargin from Walmart, Target, K-mart etc. nothing will change. It's just like drugs, you've got to change the outlook of the folks buying. If you had an American television for $750 and a model from China for $475 most people are going to buy the one from China. JMOYMMV

It's true, but....sometimes ya just don't have the money.

Hubbs wears jeans from Duluth Trading Co. We can get the "regular" ones for around $40 or the made in America ones for about $70. Sure I'd like to buy the American ones, but I'd also like to eat this week, ya know??

Companies are leaving the US because of all the regulations. Know what happens to gold mined in the US? It's given a light refining here, then sent overseas to be refined to the pure state, and sent back to the US. EPA.

When the past smothers the present, there is only desperation. When the future absorbs the present, life stands still. In either case a decision must be made because you only live now and you are only what you are now.

I would caution to not be too quick to take the easy path of criticizing the Gov't. for this. As another member here, Janq has often said; "Everything has a beginning".

The beginning of this trend started in 1946 when Demming took and taught his expertise to the then recently defeated Japanese. Thereafter and since, less principled profit motive has driven all manner of companies to pursue the very decreased labor costs of countries with lower living standards around the globe.
More dollars without considering long term consequences.

I agree that U.S. Gov't policies, and consumer awareness are factors; but we're seeing things after a long period of unbridled, greedy corporate money making. (notice prices to consumers never went down even after companies had lower production costs).

I have heard it said that things will level out.
That means living standards will raise in all those other countries . . and lower in our country . . . and I who am old enough to have seen it much better here in the U.S.A. am saddened by that.

We just turned in several of those CFL bulbs everyone is buying after seeing this video. We bought some Sylvania SuperSaver bulbs that are Made In The USA, energy saving, and...contain NO mercury. I feel better that the replacements we bought were made in the USA.
