    Natural Sleep Aid?

My wife has problems sleeping & also not very tolerant of most meds. What are some suggestions for stuff she might try to help her sleep (natural)?

    Thanks in advance.

Hello. I have read and heard that something called "MIN-CHEX" is a natural sleeping aid, but I've not tried it.

    Best and good luck.

I have used melatonin. It does not leave me groggy or unable to function. For me it just seems to make me tired. I can fight it if something comes up and I need to be awake. It is supposed to be a natural hormone that our body produces. Literature says that we melatonin is produced by the body based on light patterns (ie. sunrise and sunset). but we get out of wack because we do not live by sunlight anymore.

My wife is very into aroma therapy and teas...Lavender aroma helps with sleep. Also, Chamomile tea helps.

If you go to the store sometimes they have "sleeping teas" that are a mix of chamomile and other things. They are useful also.

    Best of luck!

Also, a hot bath or shower about 1 hour before bedtime is supposed to help. For some reason when your body cools down, it makes you sleepy.

    I also use Melatonin.

You should refer to this article before you start using it. Good information there.

Valerian Root. Usually carried in pharmacy vitamin sections.

My wife uses the stuff, and it works great.

Find her a good book, and let her start reading it while in bed. She'll be out in no time.

A good book, like say, Machinery's Handbook will put her out in seconds flat... If it fails, you can thump her on the head with it... that'll work too!

    Thumbs up

Both my wife and I regularly use melatonin and have for a long time. Have tried various brands and compositions and have found that quality, strength and maker does make a difference.

For us Twinlab "controlled release" 2 mg works best and it has a small amount of calcium and phosphorus, which evidently helps with assimilation, etc. It is very cheap on-line via Vitacost.

This is a purely independent recommendation and I am a very true believer in this over the counter sleep remedy. No side effects, cheap and it works!

A 25-minute soak in our hot tub while I have two Heineken...pretty much does it for me, but then I'm a simple man.

There are some triple all natural sleep formulations out there.
    L-Tryptophan, Melatonin, & Valerian Root.

Also that Sleepy Time Herbal Tea tea works pretty well. My Sister uses that sweetened with 2 teaspoons of raw unfiltered honey.
