What is with the NCIS (not what you think) job postings?

I don't spend that much time surfing the net. Pretty much limited to two or three forums, my email, and online shopping.

My wife however has come across several ads and banners for

Join the National Clandestine Investigative Service, go to the CIA.gov website to learn more.

I have not gone to said website, and will not on principle.

I am curious to know however if this is our (USA) version of the Gestapo?

"Clandestine"...really could have chosen a better word.

It's NCS (no I), National Clandestine Service.

The National Clandestine Service (NCS) has responsibility for the clandestine collection of foreign intelligence, primarily human source intelligence (HUMINT). The NCS serves as the national authority for coordination, de-confliction, and evaluation of clandestine HUMINT operations across the Intelligence Community, consistent with existing laws, executive orders, and interagency agreements. The NCS is the front-line source of clandestine and weapons proliferation to military and political issues. To gather this important intelligence, CIA operations officers live and work overseas to establish and maintain networks and personal relationships with foreign “assets” in the field.

OK I'm in. Where do I sign up? I've always wanted to be able to introduce myself as "Bond, Timmy Bond".

Wow. That is surprising. But, I guess they have to recruit too, just like any other large organization.

So, is it still clandestine if your advertising on the radio? I guess, "Come work for the secret agency that everyone know nows about" does not have the same ring to it.

No tin hat here, I put that away sometime in 2010.

I know the CIA has jobs, and does recruiting, usually at colleges, and I'll bet military and recommended transfers from other Fed Govt' positions/agencies.

It's just this new name and choice of words.

I'll admit that I am curious to know what they are all about, and at the same time a bit nervous. That particular three letter agency already has a bad stigma attached to it, and now it has another offspring...to serve what purpose?

Again, is this going to be the USA version of the Gestapo and start work on US citizens?

Again, no tin hat, we already have the "Rat on your neighbor" campaign at WalMart.

You do realize that just because one works for the CIA doesn't mean they're secret agent man right? They do have to have non-clandestine positions. Just like the FBI or any other 3 letter agency. You're average FBI payroll accountant probably doesn't go around in body armor and a hood busting down doors in late night raids. The same is probably said for the CIA. It just happens that for that particular posting they're not looking for the payroll accountant

Good post. And folks, note the ".gov" domain. If it doesn't say ".gov" you are probably dealing with a scammer and thief who has nothing to do with Uncle.

If possible, make sure the IP address and the URL are consistent. There are folks who know how to put up web sites that look like they are from Uncle but are redirects and phony sites from folks who want to cheat you.
