I used to hate CQ, especially on Saturdays. I would bring along plenty of literature to pass the time.

What I wouldn't have given for a DVD to watch on CQ. My old brigade prohibited all TVs, video games, computers, and any non-military literature.
I spent a lot of time shining boots, making security checks, and buffing floors to stay awake.
There are many things I miss about being a buck SGT, but CQ is not one of them.

Charge of Quarters. Is a type of guard duty that most soldiers have to perform, usually at their company's Orderly Room or barracks, where they have to work for 24 hours without sleep. They control access, answer the phone, make sure things are in order and secure while everyone else is asleep. Also, follow an SOP in case of emergencies, etc. The soldier gets the next day off.

Wow, been so long since I pulled CQ it took me a bit to remember what it was, I think the last time was in 1971. Was extremely boring back then also.
