Interesting - Thousands of Calif. Inmates Refuse Food in Protest

This protest was up to 6,600 inmates but is now down to 1,700. Not bad for a state that needs to save money. A few are threatening to starve to death - this could relieve the overcrowding without putting the population at risk.

I think an interesting experiment would be not to feed any of them just to see how long it takes for them to revert to cannibalism.

I guess this should be a concern, but if they want to starve to death when food is provided it is there problem.

There are things that prisoners deserve, clean water and food. There are other things that have to be earned/worked for. There are other things I really don't care to provide.

You got some that don`t want to eat, and some that want to starve them selfs to death. All i can say is go for it, just think of all the money you will save the tax payers.

They are the ones who chose their current accomodations. I guess if you can't do the time, then don't do the crime.

Don't eat in protest? Great. Have at it and more power to them to do it.

I say take the food they don't want to consume and feed some hungry people outside the prison. One's who truly deserve it.

A homeless veteran, a family who the bread-winner lost a job due to the downturn in the economy. An elderly couple barely surviving on Social Security making the decision to pay utility bills or eat and the list goes on.

We have plenty of folks who would love half of what is willingly given to inmates. Let them starve in protest, it won't hurt me one bit.

I personally like this response to the aticle from one of the readers,,,

DB14 Good, the more that starve themsleves to death, the more room there will be for more gangbangers. If the Supreme Court thinks that the prisons are overcrowded then let them build some new ones out of their own pockets - preferably next to their homes and those of their families.

Damned fine idea in my opinion. I would suggest however before they completely waste away that any usable organs be harvested for use in Transplant Centers. They do need to pay their debt to society. You could call it Restorative Justice.

This is a self correcting problem. Why anyone pays them any attention is beyond me. They only do it because some idiots care
