Hey I love labs. Sometimes the truth stings a little.
You know what labs remind me of... the slow kid that lives down the street. Hard worker, fun loving all around good kid. Anybody would be proud to have him as a son.. but he's just not the brightest bulb on the tree.
Another example, I'm an avid bird hunter. A lot of the guys I hunt with use labs. You won't find a harder working more awesome all around dog. Labs are great at working hard and playing hard. They are a joy to watch... but again its like the slow kid that keeps raking the leaves into the wind and never finishes what he intends on doing. On the other hand, my setter will work a field at mach 2, come back to me remembering where all the birds are and point them... and then the son of a gun gets lets the labs chase down the dead birds while he hangs out... which they happily do.
Anyway, didn't mean to go on and on like a loon, I like talking dogs as much as I like talking guns... I love labs. Great dogs, perhaps even the best family dog yet.

Well, Cammo Girl's lab deserves praise for its restraint from making disparaging remarks on the internet.
And I think that the OP's lab is faking sleeping and is ready to defend Evie.
How dumb is that?

It is no longer "your" lab. She owns that dog now, or vice versa.
My granddaughter would lay with her head on the side of her Siberian while watching tv, and he wouldn't move if a tornado came thru the room. But anyone attempt to mess with her, they were going to have an extremely bad day. Some guy tried breaking into their house thru her window, the Siberian was trying to break thru the window to get them and eat them. Later, she and the dog were living with me. He was definitely "her " dog.

Great pictures. Kids and dogs were made for each other.

Beau is blushing here. I don't know about the dumb thing, I think Beau picked up on my love of picking on my wife. She'll mess with him and then he'll chase her around the kitchen poking her in the butt. It's quite hilarious to watch.

Yup, I did. Late night ramblings hardly ever turn out as intended.

My neighbors have chocolate labs. And a little tyke.
One day the dad heard his son laughing like he'd never heard before.
One of the labs had the kid by the foot and was gently dragging him around the room.
The kid was loving every second of it, and the dog knew not to play too hard.

Yeah, but they love people and are great family dogs.
If I wanted a smart dog, I'd get a Golden, but no long hair for me.

No doubt about it. Labs are great family dogs. I had a golden from a rescue years ago. He was a cool dog, and actually still had some hunting/retrieving instinct left in him. He did pretty darn good in Ohio's pheasant fields.
