Are you kidding me??? I just read an article about several Congresspersons who feel that they need a raise. They say that their $174,000/yr salary + perks is insufficient and that they can't make ends meet!!! And then they wonder why people have such a low opinion of them! Their constituents should send them back to the private sector where they can earn to their hearts content, unfortunately they keep sending them back. Nothing speaks louder of the need to unseat ALL incumbents, regardless of party; institute serious term limits; and let's throw in some significant campaign finance reform and limitations on "gifts" from lobbieists!!!

For $174k I would expect them to be working 24.3 hours a day 7.2 days a week.
A GOOD congressman that works FOR the people should be well compensated, but the jokes we typically have in office should be denied unemployment even.

I actually think they are underpaid, as is the Prez and all of the SC justices and appeals court judges. However, I can think of at least 10 things they need to fix before they are deserving of another dime.
In fact, I can think of things which if not fixed should reduce their salary.
With their approval rating at an all time low, somewhat worse than your typical used car dealer or slum lord, they do have their nerve.
If the Union is once severed, the line of separation will grow wider and wider, and the controversies which are now debated and settled in the halls of legislation will then be tried in fields of battle and determined by the sword.

I'm willing to pay people what they are worth. If I were calling the shots, I can only think of one or two that would get a pay raise. The rest of them would make more at McDonalds.

I don't want most of them making laws, much less my hamburger.
