It seems to be very popular in my area, cause there were a few pages of caches within a mile of were I live.

The "rules" do caution against placement of caches anywhere near sensitive areas to avoid that type of confusion.
In these parts..I can only imagin some of these caches would be placed -60 sea level, in a gator infested area, as a ruse.

    Greg,

From what I understand, the volunteers at Geocaching.com review all new caches before they are posted. While they don't physically locate all caches, they do check the coordinates for obvious legal, environmental, safety issues and try to weed out the crap.

I've cached for a couple years, I usually look for caches on public land as a way to scout for hunting/fishing spots. Though I don't do it alot since I'm usually hunting or fishing when I have that kind of time :-).

As I sit here looking at my Garmin Etrex LegendC currently loaded with about 250 cache waypoints, I guess I have to admit I am a geocacher. About 115 "finds" in four countries and umpteen states so far. It's something I can do when I travel, which I do most of the time. Since I travel alone it is a hobby I can pursue alone and it takes me to places I would not think to visit. Parks, landmarks, historical sites and such.
