So as the title says, the wife and I are considering getting out of New England and taking a job in the Augusta, GA area. I am looking for info on the area, cost of living, neighborhoods, etc. I have received some info from a friend in the area telling me that Evans, GA is the place to live. Any feedback is appreciated.

My sister and her husband lived in Evans from 1994-about 1998. They liked the area. Housing was very reasonable then. Back then you could still get tickets to the Master's without having inherited badges. There is some sort of lottery for badges now. Hilton Head is maybe 2.5 hours away.
I have family over in Evans. You'll get a lot of house for your dollar and there are some nice subdivisions over there. You have the river walk towards the SC side (some beautiful trails along the canal & Savannah river), a modest mall, and decent schools.
Stay away from the south side (gangland). Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss in detail.
