Question Getting rid of garbage smell

I took some garbage to the landfill this morning. Our township has a program where you can take up to 4 bags of trash each Saturday for a $20 yearly fee. The two provisos are that you have to bring it yourself, and it's can only be on Saturday between 7-11am. Well this morning I loaded some trash into the back of my Xterra with those heavy duty black bags. I guess during the course of the trip a little bit of garbage juice (a CD sized spot) leaked onto my carpet. Now my Xterra smells like trash

Are there any home remedies for removing the smell? I cracked my windows and sprayed some Febreze but it didn't seem to help too well.

    Thanks for the help!

Sprinkle baking soda liberally into the carpet where it leaked and beyond, then vacuum it the next day.

If that doesn't work, a good auto parts place should have some detailer's carpet shampoo that should be more effective.

I was hoping someone would have "Dump some Hoppes in there" That stuff overpowers everything

One way that worked for me was to use some canned carpet cleaner on the spotted area, then vacuum up the residue, that should get the carpet clean. Now to get rid of the nasty smell, get a bottle of buck lure and dribble some of it inside the Xterra. You can even pour some into the heater vents, the blower will help spread the smell. I love the smell of buck lure in the morning !! Hope that helps.

Shampoo the spot, and then put a packet of ground coffee in the car to absorb odor.

I've been a big fan of Ozium. Walmart and Amazon have it. Do what Rock and Glock suggested; maybe what both Gasmitty and dV8r suggested too. Finish with Hoppes, just because this is DC.

I like Spot Shot. My mom uses it back home for stains from the cats, and I keep a can in my place for general messes. It works like a charm.

It might have soaked through the carpet. Put a lot of baking soda under the spot area (even if it hasn't made it through yet).

I use baking soda every time I clean the car. After I vacuum the carpet it I spray it with Lysol. I do not like Febrese because the smell is too strong and it takes way too long time before it disappears.
