I HIGHLY recommend this book ....

Just courious,why do you recommend it,I have not read it,so.....................

I recommend it for a number of reasons, actually:

1. It's a series of vignettes and biographies, so reading it is easy even though it's got a ton of really detailed information.
2. The really detailed information is another very good reason.
3. An interesting perspective on politics today. For instance in this book, the people labeled 'liberals', as they were called at the time and by the government in charge of these colonies, would be referred to as 'conservatives' today, and vice versa.
4. Some telling stories of the way a government can work, for instance detailed accounts of the English governments attempts to seize weapons and stockpiles before any type of conflict broke out, and how those seizures would have aided the English crown government in enforcing their tyrannical desires on the colonies, that is the people that were beginning to call themselves Americans.
5. Did I mention the detail and the way the detail is broken up into vignettes so it's easier to absorb? I'm a lazy reader at heart.

Bump for seriously folks, the book -- Patriots written by AJ Langguth -- is a very good read and would make a great Christmas present for anyone.

I'm purposely bumping my own thread here .... this book is that good.
