Logic 101
This was passed to me from a friend.
An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week:
"If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the
Iraq Theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112
deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same
period. That means you are about 33 per cent more likely to be shot
and killed in the US capital which has some of the strictest gun control
laws in the U..S., than you are in Iraq .
Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington.
Train like your life depends on it, because it does.

If all the 2112 deaths were due to firearms, the death rate would be 1320 per 100k, significantly higher than the 80.6/100k reported for DC.

i believe the forumula is
number of deaths
_______________ x 100,000 or 2112 / 160000 x 100,000 = 62.5...... less than DC
total population
But i'm just using math.

Not according to your story. "The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period."

Strange math. Your total population is 160k. 2112 of them were killed. For every 100k of that population, 1320 people were killed.

First of all Mike it wasn't my story. Secondly, I suppose it's how you read the story or how it's written. I did find this online that backs up the math.
Formula
In other words, the death RATE is what we're talking about.

That formula, applied to the numbers you provided in the OP, results in a death rate of 1,320 per 100,000.
(heck of a first post huh. Hi guys!)

I give up. Wasn't my post, wasn't my story but the RATE is correct with the info given. Guess I'm done with this little battle.... and welcome to the forum bd.

I'd give up too. A guy with the name of Cheung probably knows a little more about math than I do.

Oh come on now... lighten up. I didn't mean to offend. Racism isn't en vogue, but a sense of humor is. Its not racism if its true, plus it was a compliment.
