What happens when you buy the farm?

OK, more to the point what happens when I buy a farm?

The wife and I are putting in an offer today on a local farm with 51 acres, two barns and a house. I'm excited about it because I've always wanted some land of my own. There are deer tracks all over the place and one of the biggest buck rubs I've ever seen on a tree about 30 feet from the front porch.

Any prayers for the wife and I would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

I'll let you all know how things progress.

The government is merely a servant -- merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a
patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.

Awesome, and here I thought it was going to be a far more somber topic.

Tim, if you and the wife get the farm, you can move the shooting range to the back porch.

    Good luck.

Whew - thought you were getting ready to have one of those aircraft groundings that one doesn't walk away from

Good luck on the deal since you'll then be able to do a little huntin' off your back porch like I do

To answer that question specifically....You make more friends who are willing to visit and shoot on your farm.

Congratulations!! My wife and I bought a farm in 1994, built a house on it along with two barns and raised animals and our two boys. Best thing we ever did. Ever!! Crazy thing is we had never done anything like it before. That is what made it so fun. Learning to stretch fence, care for animals, buy and drive a tractor. I could go on and on. I know you will love it. The hunting and shooting aspect is also very cool. Enjoy every minute. It is a great life and one that brings serenity.

Congratulations! I know the feeling. BUT, you can kiss that 30ft away rub goodby. He will be a little harder to find now that you are in the picture. Leave a secure zone for the deer that NO ONE hunts, and they will stick around. If you have some conifers in a protected area, that would be the best spot.
Food plots, shelter, water..as the saying goes "build it and they will come"

P.S. I guess this means you'll be spending less time in the " man cave " huh?

Congratulations, now you will need to go buy a truck, a tractor and whatever implements you may need.

    Very very very jealous.

In 1996 I had the opportunity to buy 60 acres at 2K each. It would have been tough, too tough maybe, since my kiddo was in
College, but maybe we could have managed it.

I should have made the kid drop out.

Five years later that piece of land, subdivided, was selling for 15 to 30 K per acre. I drive by now and again to remind myself that I'm a first class financial dummy.
