What the heck was the name of that movie??

...probably made around '75-'78....about uniformed cops, one was a rookie, if I remember, it ended with the veteran cop being shot as he went up the back stairs into some residence...cannot remember the name of it to save myself...I know it wasn't The Onion Field but there may have been a book written by the same author about it...can't remember the author either .

Anybody have any ideas? I've been wanting to watch it again...

    Thanks

Any details like who was in it?

The Onion Field I believe was by Joseph Wambaugh.
Except for the time and stairs scenario it sounds a bit like Colors starring Sean Penn and Robert Duvall in 1988.

I think I found it, I believe it was The New Centurians. Thanks guys, you're right mcp, it was Wambaugh.

I sometimes forget that I can use this little black box for my own research haha

    Thanks guys.

Big screen flick about LA cops...no it wasn't Serpico...I'm pretty certain it was The New Centurians the description matches my memory (what little I have left). George C. Scott and Stacy Keach the blurb says.

I remember one Cop movie where Stacy Keach is dispatched to either a burglary or armed robbery,as he takes up a defensive position he sees a couple in a car parked in front ,he runs up to the drivers window to tell them to leave and the guy shoots him in the belly with a shotgun,he survives but starts drinking on the job

A Joseph Wambaugh made for TV movie starring William Holden in 1974.

    The Blue Knight.

It became a short lived TV series with George Kennedy playing the part of "Bumper Morgan".

    Maybe that's the one....?

Just be careful when you re-watch old movies... they just aren't as good as when you first saw them... or at least they don't seem as great as you remember...
    Rats!
    It could be worse!
    I suppose
