It sure sounds fake.
This is a discussion on Banker leaves server 1% Tip in protest of the 99% protesters... within the Off Topic & Humor Discussion forums, part of the The Back Porch category; It sure sounds fake....
It's fake.
Dude would bea real anus to do stoning like that for real

As the banker was reported to have written, get a real (better) job? I believe it was Herman Cain who said "If you're poor, if you're not rich, BLAME YO'SELF!" Doesn't that still apply? I remember the applause he got for that comment. Nobody forces people to be a server. Couldn't the servers find new employment for higher wages? You could have also asked your employer to have your pay raised from $2.13 to the minimum wage or even higher.
I would like to note that I have met a few people who have the attitude that I am pretending to have. These are the responses I have gotten and they seem to stand firmly behind this belief.
I waited tables for years. Doing a good job and providing good service is how you get tips, it's not an entitlement.
Since I was a waiter for years I have no problem stiffing a server who stinks. I'll also tell them they stink. When I get great service I leave a BIG tip. Then I tell the manager about the great server and let them know we'll be back because of the great service. The door swings both ways with me, good or bad.
I don't see anything wrong with the guy giving a crummy tip IF he got bad service. Honestly though, I think this is an internet scam.

This story reeks.
The restaurant has already acknowledged that the receipt was 'altered'. 'Odd coincidence that the patron was a 'banker'. How did the server know what his occupation was? Was it his uniform?
This has 'dumb fabrication' written all over it.![]()

I've worked in the restaurant business and know that waitstaff is considered a "Tip" position by the government. As such, they only make a fraction of minumum wage and the waitstaff must pay taxes on 10% of their receipts whether they earn it or not because the government expects them to have at least this much in tips. So, if this is not fake, he literally took $12 out of her pocket with that 1% tip. Not to mention, the part about leaving the note to "Get a real job" Wow, if everybody had a "real job" then we wouldn't be able to go to any restaurant or store because that's where most of the "fake jobs" exist.
That said, if service is bad then a low or no tip is in order. A bad waiter/waitress will not last long in the business because they end up broke. Good ones can make a career out of it and make decent money.

Not to take the servers side, but the banker's math skills are not to great,1% of 133.54 is 1.34,and I wander if this is some of the same Corporate Bankers that said I was getting a 15.00 dollar a month service charge for not having a minimum balance of at least 100k,so told them to stuff it,went to a local bank and now draw 3-times the interest,as for the server, lets make it public, and get the pitty party going!
Apparently the person that posted that is (was?) an assistant of the banker. The banker is a real piece of work from how the person described him in the now taken down blog about all the bankers antics.
Personally I always give 20-25% unless the service is terrible. If the service is terrible I give nothing.
That's what I do. The *get a real job* note was completely uncalled for. I have a real dislike for people who believe their station in life authorizes them to belittle those whom they consider underlings.Personally I always give 20-25% unless the service is terrible. If the service is terrible I give nothing.
I have been watching this and I really am suspicious of it. I believe that since the OWS crowd has not been in the news lately, this item was "manufactured" to draw further attention to the rich and how bad and evil they are, especially those in the financial occupations. This was the whole "reason" why they began their protesting in the first place. I really don't think that someone of the so-called "1%" would take the time to actually do that.
If I get good or bad service, I will tip. Bad service gets the bare minimum, great service gets a great tip and a note to their corporate headquarters on what a fine employee they are.

It's funny how most of these "fake" jobs directly support the lifestyle of the stereotypical upper class jerk.
I'd like this person to define what qualifies as a "real job." Anyone who has employment and goes to work every day, gets a paycheck, and pays taxes has a real job. If everybody who had low paying jobs decided to quit their jobs today, the whole world would collapse. We need those jobs to be filled. Anyone who thinks we can do without them is kidding themselves. If a person happens to have a high paying job, then they should be glad that there are other people around to do those low paying jobs.
