    CORRECTION:
On Monday evening, True Food Kitchen in Newport Beach released an official statement based on their investigation (described above) into the authenticity of the purported receipt showing a 1% tip. The restaurant's statement reveals that their hard receipt copies do not, in fact, match the photo (shown above) that was initially posted on futureexbanker.wordpress.com (since taken down). The complete statement from True Food Kitchen:

Its interesting the responses this "story" has generated. I think this is a great example of how journalists (and I really use that term loosely) can enrage people to the point of violence with a story that is completely fabricated. It saddens me that there truly doesn't seem to be any journalistic integrity left!

I think the old adage says it best - "just because its in print doesn't make it true"

Real bill was for $33, real tip was for $7.33.

Just more proof that being first is more important to the media than being right.

    I am an American.

I am not a member of a "Class," whether that class be called "the 1%" or "the 99%," "middle class" or anything else.

Let's stop buying into this class warfare garbage. Class envy is still just ENVY!

    Agreed
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

There's nothing that will change someone's moral outlook quicker than cash in large sums.

Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. Because you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper.

This was the whole "reason" why they began their protesting in the first place. I really don't think that someone of the so-called "1%" would take the time to actually do that.

If I get good or bad service, I will tip. Bad service gets the bare minimum, great service gets a great tip and a note to their corporate headquarters on what a fine employee they are.
To be fair though, the majority of these banker types did commit fraud and defraud millions of people with their mortgage schemes. They lied and made up false contracts, so this kind of behavior is not above them. I remember when the OWS protests were going, the bankers were throwing paper applications at the people from their office windows. I can totally see this type of behavior from them.

    Just my 2 cent opinion.
The server doesn't have to serve crap from the kitchen.

That's somewhat ad hominem, don't you think? "The majority of these banker types"? Where are you getting your info from?

I was a waiter for about six months. I used to think that military service ought to be compulsory. Now I think that waiting tables should be. Even the worst service still deserves a 10% tip, minimum. I don't know what kind of day that server is having. Maybe he just found out his girlfriend is cheating on him with his mother. Maybe his dog just died. Everyone deserves a break, and everyone deserves a decent wage for services performed.

The real lesson learned here is...don't believe what you read on the internet, especially from a source like the Huff-and-puffington Post, without some independent verification.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Your bleeding heart opinion just happens to stink.

I waited tables for years and I didn't expect any 10% free handouts just for showing up. I expected nothing for just showing up, I EARNED it by busting my hump. My orders were correct, my drinks got filled and I always tried to make sure my customers were happy. BOOM, I got good tips.

Telling me that a crummy server deserves 10% is a flippin' joke. A crummy server deserves to get fired. Then that crummy server deserves to wake up hungry everyday for a few weeks until they get the right attitude and get another job.

Don't take this wrong but :

In your "opinion" just because a few "bankers" engaged in fraud then you paint them all with the same brush. Your reasoning is very much like when someone who like us, likes firearms and has a permit to carry one then some idiot does something stupid with one, then we ALL are guilty. Eh? Some of the blame for the Mortgage failures need to be applied to the people signing the contracts. They acted all Pelosiesque and signed it, then read it to see what was in it.

The problem with this is that it is a fake reciept, manufactured by someone to continue the class warfare that the OWS began in the first place. Many of "them" are clueless as to what they are really protesting. Ask them. I have and they can't give a straight answer only that the "evil rich" people are the blame for all the problems we face in America. That about sums up the whole protest thing in a nutshell. It is a whole set of bad circumstances that got us to this point, not just one single item.

I can also look into my crystal ball and see this thread being closed.

99%ers are mad at everyone except Starbucks and Apple. My favorite tip to leave when I get piss poor service is "Don't eat yellow snow."
