New virus/PW fishing out there?
OK guys I just wanted to give you a heads up about what popped into my in box this week.
I keep getting E-mails that look to be real from YouTube telling me "My video has been approved". Since I don't post anything there I knew not to open the links in the E-mail.
Just to be sure someone else wasn't posting things to YouTube on my account I went over there WITHOUT using the link in the E-mail and checked my account. Sure enough nothing was going on.
I'm pretty sure these YouTube E-mails are a virus/fishing attempt so don't click on them. The do look like the real thing though so be careful.
Cheers,
Timmy

Yah, I got one this morning too. 'Dunno if it's a virus, I just marked it as 'spam' without opening it, and partied on.

You can find a wealth of info from the sender by expanding the e-mails headers, if you know/learn what to look for like...
An IP reverse look up or a Verified Domain Key beside the FROM: Header

(Google "e-mail headers" for more info)

I'm pretty certain they don't. I'm a 30-year systems engineer, and use a different mail alias for every forum/website I register on. I can tell if one of them exposes me to spam pretty readily. In which case that alias becomes a pipe to /dev/null.

I try to use alias names whenever I order something. My dogs each have magazine subscriptions, the spam/junk mail lets me know who sold the identity. I then stop doing business with that company
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

That too. /etc/aliases on my mail server currently has 469 entries of which about 400 are site-specific.
Except I don't have any dogs, with or without magazine subscriptions.

As a general rule I forward suspicious emails to the fraud address of the supposed sender.

How do you create & use an alias? Sounds interesting.
