This Pastor has guts!! Thought you might enjoy this interesting Prayer
> given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems
> Prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to
> open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the
> usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
> "Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and
> to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to
> Those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We
> have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
> We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
> We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
> We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
> We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
> We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building
> self esteem.
> We have abused power and called it politics.
> We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
> We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it
> freedom of _expression.
> We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and
> called it enlightenment.
> Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every
> sin and set us free. Amen!"
> The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during
> the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church,
> where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with
> only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now
> receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India,
> Africa and Korea.
> Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The
> Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program
> than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this
> prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so
> that we again can be called "one nation Under God."
Why Ike, whatever do you mean? Maybe poker's just not your game Ike. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!
Well - let's hope folks know who they were and deem them the spineless people they have behaved like - and let votes later register that too.A number of legislators walked out during
the prayer in protest.

It is an interesting prayer and it was delivered January 23, 1996. Rev. Wright read the prayer which had been delivered in 1995 by Bob Russell who offered it at the Kentucky Governor’s Prayer Breakfast in Frankfort, Kentucky. Rev. Wright left after reading the prayer and was unaware of the ruckus until later.

Liberty is an inherently offensive lifestyle. Living in a free society guarantees that each one of us will see our most cherished principles and beliefs questioned and in some cases mocked. It's worth it.
yes, I enjoy hearing someone who is not afraid to call it as it is...

Politicians are typically unable to tolerate the truth and almost never speak the truth. This is what got us in this mess to begin with.

I am glad there are some people that are out there who dare to say what they believe. May it continue to thrive !
Wow, now that's a church I would check out if I were in Kansas

I was a member of Central Christian Church for the five years ('99-'04) that I lived in Wichita. Pastor Wright is hands down the most compelling speaker I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. His sermons are always tremendously thought provoking and powerful. I always dreaded Church until I first went to one of his services. He is unfortunately retiring at the end of this year. Pastor Terry Fox from Emmanual Babtist Church in Wichita is a close friend of his and is a good speaker in his own right. Together, they have been thrown out of the Kansas legislative buildings a number of times for praying over assemblies.
Oh, and I can't begin to tell the number of times I have had that prayer forwarded to me by friends and relatives from all over the country. It never ceases to amaze me how it continues to thrive the Internet.
