Thumbs down Idiot In My Town!! Story & Video. Update At Post 21.

This story and the video in it has gone "viral" as they say. It shows some moron doing almost 300 km per hour (186 mph for those not on the metric system) on the highway, in traffic.

I do this commute every night. Wouldn't you know it's about the only time the RCMP are not sitting in either of the two spots they would normally be sitting in monitoring speeds.

300 km/h motorcycle ride shocks Vancouver Island police - British Columbia - CBC News

The bike has a digital speedometer on the left side of the instrument cluster that tops out at 299 km per hour near the end of the video.

Lose control at that speed and all they will need is a scraper and sponge to pick you up. Beyond crazy.

Well, that's one way to get to work faster. I get a little ticked on people on their racing bikes doing tricks and going excessively fast. There are some kids in my area that do tricks on the highway while going 70 or 80 mph. If they want to risk their lives, that is one thing, but I don't like them endangering other people by their irresponsible actions.

It's not just motorcycles. People in cars do similar things. He is more likely to hurt/maim/kill himself than anything.

I'm not big on physics, but some back of envelope calculations...
Motorcycle @ 180mph = 6,400 foot pounds of force (Weight used for calc 780lbs)
    Corvette @ 180mph = 27,000 foot pounds of force (3250ibs)
    Chevy Tahoe @ 70mph = 16,000 foot pounds of force (5000lbs)

So, if you got hit, would you pick this guy or the soccer mom in the Tahoe doing 70mph? I understand if the object being hit is in motion, that changes things. The point is that videos like this are sensationalist and just look dangerous, but things we encounter every day are just as dangerous but we don't see them that way because they look 'normal'.

If that was on a closed course, I'd congratulate this person, but am instead disgusted since this is a street traveled by other people who's life is put in danger due to this stunt.

Plus, how many people did this person scare the crud out of by passing that close and at that speed? I bet if they had a camera following this idiot, you'd see people jerking their steering wheel as a reaction, likely to cause another accident in itself.

All it takes is for one driver to change lanes unexpectedly and this person would be eating metal and pavement quicker than a pen drop. I hope this person ends up in jail with maximum charges associated with purposely endangering other people's lives.

Though I agree with your math, the main difference is that these other dangers aren't driven by someone who is being intently dangerous. If I were on this road, I'd be less concerned about the impact of the motorcycle, but in the loss of control of my vehicle or others. Meaning you can start adding those numbers together in a multi-car impact or pile up. Also, show me a video of someone doing this at this speed, to this level of danger in a car. Similar, yes, as extreme, no.

    CRAZY INSANE DRIVING!!! - YouTube
I’ll admit I enjoy driving fast but in traffic like that is bloody freaking nuts. Crazy insane driving is an apt description.

Thanks for sharing that was a crazy ride. Not just the speed but passing all of those cars between the lanes. How many more videos to his life expectancy? I am guessing 2 or 3 like that one and he will run out of luck.
